Paint Splash Workshop
As I've mentioned before, I have been involved with some Photography workshops put on by Cory Walker from Miasma Photography here in St Thomas. I'd like to post a few photos from one of our messiest shoots to date, but first I'll run through our set up. We started by covering the studio with plastic, surrounding the area for the models to pose and also had a plastic kiddie pool for them to stand in. The idea was to contain the paint and water as best we could. Afterwards we were able to lift the plastic to direct the water into the kiddie pool and then cut a hole in the bottom of the plastic to let it drain through. So, a little more about the actual shoot. We had four amazing and brave models come out for the night to pose while we threw paint at them. I can only imagine how hard it would be to maintain composure at the time of impact. They did an excellent job and we ended up with some great shots. For our light set up, we used (I believe) six sets of construction lights in behind the plastic and white backdrop and we had two large LED video lights set up for our key light. Our goal for the night was to freeze the paint in flight without the use of strobes or flash. It was a very popular workshop with approximately 12 photographers all trying to get "the shot" at the same time. We also wanted to have the ability to use rapid fire so we wouldn't waste time with missed shots. If we were to use strobes or flash, then only one photographer would have been able to shoot at a time and only able to shoot once per throw, therefore increasing the chance of missing a good shot and adding to the time frame of the night. Here are a few of my favourites from the night:
